About Us
Just to make it clear, I am not, in fact, a cat.
A quick google for Mr Biggles turns up an unfortunate number of results for one rather ornery Australian cat who’s creative ‘for sale’ ad was plastered all over the internet by an enterprising pet rescue centre.
Instead our Mr Biggles story started early in 2018.
But before I tell you that story – a quick bit of scene setting (scene setting, it’s pretty much our thing after all)
I used to make video games for a living. I got into that simply because I thought I could do it better. And working for the likes of Electronic Arts, Eidos and Lego – on games such as Lego Star Wars and Fifa Soccer and Urban Chaos, I was incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to do so too.
It was the creativity I loved. The opportunity to bring to life in the virtual world, the vast uniqueness of the real world – without some of the ‘laws of physics’ natural constraints of course!
So how did I get from video games to photos and videos?
Well with age and experience comes a heightened appreciation for unplugging.
For stepping back and really looking at the astonishingly intricate beauty that surrounds us every day. Be it in man-made architecture and design aesthetics or the natural backdrop amongst which it sits.
And so Mr Biggles was born.
Yes I love technology – but only when it serves a higher purpose.
In this case – our still cameras, our video cameras and our drones – are simply the vehicle that unlocks the creative flair.
The purpose – to inspire an emotional connection in the eye of the beholder.
We’re passionate about that
People’s behaviour, emotions and ultimately their decisions are made from the part of their brain called the ‘limbic system’. Errmmm excuse me? I thought I had landed on a photography and video site? Don’t worry, you have. So why the biology lesson? Bear with.
What’s so special about the limbic system? Well it has no capacity for language. That’s where our frontal cortex, our human brain, takes over. It does the job of rationalising all those decisions.
Think about it… why do you love your partner? They’re kind? Funny? Look after you? Generous? Interesting? Smart? Congratulations – you’ve just described a decent chunk of the planet’s population. Why can’t you find the words to describe that special connection, that uniqueness?
It’s because that special connection is made from your limbic system… and it has no words to describe how it feels.
It’s the same reason why we can get irrationally passionate about a particular brand – be it Apple vs Samsung, Ford vs Holden, Fisher & Paykel vs Bosch – the connection is made at an emotional level not a feature based rational one…. that’s just the purchase justification we tell ourselves after the fact.
Ok enough with the brain science – what’s that got to do with Mr Biggles?
What’s one of the strongest things that does connect with that decision-making limbic system? Images, moving or still.
They tell a story in a way words never can. Stunning images that evoke an emotional connection, a desire to find out more, see more – last far longer than any witty marketing headline.
We get that, and its why we place so much importance on finding the right images, to transport your messages right to the heart of your chosen target limbic system.
